Back to School Shopping at Gordmans - Giving Back to No Kid Hungry!

I don't know about you all but I really love back to school shopping! I love seeing all of the fun new things and seeing Daphnie pick out the things that she loves and seeing her personality shine through in her choices. She had so much fun when we shopped at Gordmans - where she found so many adorable back to school essentials.

Not only do I feel very blessed to be able to provide these things for Daphnie - but I also feel for those children that are not as fortunate. We are doing a few things to give back this school year, but one of the ways we are giving back is by doing some of our back to school shopping at Gordmans. 

Gordmans is helping to fuel kids' futures by partnering with No Kid Hungry and is donating 50% of sales from designated Back to School products sold from July 21st to August 31st to No Kid Hungry to help make sure no kid goes hungry - any time of year!

- Over half of public schools students in the U.S. are from low-income families

-22 million kids rely on free or reduced-price school lunches

Aside from shopping in-store until August 31st, you can help give to No Kid Hungry by posting a photo on your Instagram feed using the hashtag #FuelKidsFutures - for every photo posted with this hashtag Gordmans will donate $1.00 to No Kid Hungry (up to $10,000).

Finding the Perfect (and fastest) Back to School Shoes!

Back to School shopping is one of my favorite memories from my childhood and new school shoes were my favorite thing to shop for! I think Daphnie enjoys almost any shopping, but her love of shoes is undeniable.  This year we took her into Famous Footwear – where she could find the shoes to make her feel Famous on her First Day!

Daphnie goes to a school where she has to wear a uniform, but they are allowed to wear whatever athletic shoes they would like with their uniform – so this is one place where she can show her style and be unique. 

We started our search on Famousfootwear.com to see what styles she liked and to see if her favorite pair was in a store near us – which worked out perfectly because her favorite Adidas shoes were in our hometown store, just a few miles down the road!

When we got to the store, she still went through the aisles and looked at every shoe in the kids section – she even looked in the womens section –

TIP: A Women’s size 6 translates to a Big Kid’s Size 4! (and that works the other way around too!)

She ultimately found the Adidas shoes she liked from online as well as a few other contenders – a cute rainbow knit pair from Nike along with a few others.  She tried each pair on – and of course, tested them for speed as she ran down the aisle with each pair on. Thankfully her favorite Adidas shoes also happened the fastest! 😉 

After she picked out her athletic shoes, she saw a few pair of casual sneakers that she liked as well – and since Famous Footwear had their normal BOGO 50% off sale going on, we couldn’t pass up the deal – the second pair of ROXY sneakers were under $15 after taking 50% off!

She couldn’t wait to put her new shoes on, so she wore them out of the store…and of course a photo-op presumed. She always has the best smiles when I’m taking her picture when she loves her outfit/shoes!

Daphnie is so excited for her first day of school – with her new sneakers that she picked out and loves – she will be so confident and stand tall on her first day back!

Back to School - The BIG Backpack Blog - Find the perfect unique girl's backpack!

Well, summer is quickly coming to an end and back to school season is here! Thankfully for you, I've done all of the work on rounding up all of the cutest girl's backpacks out there! From Unicorns, Kitties and Glitter to Space, Galaxy and Watercolor - I have found them all!

I believe most of these retailers offer same day pickup - where you can order online and pick up in store. I suggest doing this if you are at all worried about the store selling out!

Well, the day of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has finally came! To be completely honest I struggled with whether or not I would even cover the sale. I think it gets a lot of hype in the social media/blogging world and while you can find some really great deals - at the same time so many of these items are overpriced to start with, so put an overpriced item on sale and it's like normal price of other similar items/brands/retailers. 

For this reason, I am going to go through our top 10 items (10 for Daphnie and 10 for myself) and will find other similar or the same item for the same or better pricing.

There are two reasons I ended up doing the NSale coverage - 1 - Shoes: I do think they have a few pair of pretty good shoes. Some I already own and wear regularly in the fall/winter and others are new!  2 - Kids and back to school. They do have some really good kids and back to school finds which we will show you below - well for girls - I have no business showing you boys items as I'm clueless in that department.

READ THIS BEFORE SHOPPING Nordstrom Anniversary Sale DUPES - Same or Similar Items for Less $!

As a blogger I feel an immense pressure to cover the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale - I mean, it's a decent sale and all - but I honestly believe so many of the items are overpriced to begin with - jut put on sale. So put an overpriced item on sale and it's then the same price as you can get it elsewhere! 

So I'm out to prove my theory - I have searched high and low to find the same (or very similar) items from other retailers/sites for the same price or cheaper! I am probably killing any chance to ever work with Nordstrom again by doing this, but I feel like it's my job to be up front and honest with you all. 4. Free People Busted Knee Skinny Jeans

I was able to find these EXACT jeans at a different retailer for over $10 less!

I was able to find a very similar item for this item for $19 - only a $5 difference, but still cheaper!

6. Basic Tees

I'm lumping all of these together because there are a lot of basics in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale - however - I have purchased these same tees that are on sale this year and I honestly believe the 'A New Day' line of basics at Target is better. They have a large selection of colors/patterns and the fabric quality is amazing! You can find their basics on sale often for under $10 - but regular price is still around the $10 mark, so still better than the #NSale finds!

Again, lumping all of these together - the styles really aren't that different in my opinion anyway - but you can definitely find them elsewhere for a LOT cheaper.

8. Madewell Stripe Cardigan

I wasn't able to find an exact dupe for this one - however if you remember last year's stripe cardigan (with the rust and blue) - so many Amazon dupes came up shortly after the sale, so if you can't find the exact stripe combo now, I would assume you'll be able to by the time fall rolls around!

I didn't find the exact match for this one, but found another super similar item on Amazon (with prime!)

I love these boots, they are so great in the fall and winter - I was able to find a few dupes on Amazon, but many didn't have a lot of sizes available.
